BLOOMINGTON – U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) has voiced his support for the nuclear deal President Obama has proposed with Iran, but the rest of Congress still needs to give approval.
Durbin believed there are three possible outcomes to the situation. He called one “unacceptable.”
“That Iran develops a nuclear device which can be used against Israel (and) against our allies in the Middle East,” said Durbin. “Number two; we have a diplomatic effort to stop Iran from developing a nuclear weapon. That’s what the president wants. That’s what I support.”
Durbin also rejected the third option: U.S. military involvement.
“We have some Republican senators who say, ‘four days and we’re out of there.’ I don’t believe that anymore. I heard that with Iraq,” he said.
That’s why Durbin said the U.S. should continue to push for a diplomatic solution to the situation.
