CHICAGO – Meat. Beer. Rock and Roll. That’s the motto of a former McLean County man who has turned his passion for grilling into a second job.
John Scholl who grew up in Danvers and lives in Chicago founded ManBQue and has released a book by that name. He calls it the next griller’s Bible for those in their 20s and 30s.

“It’s not necessarily throwing burgers on the grill and cooking those, it’s more taking from higher-end food so, it’s bringing higher-end food down to the everyman,” Scholl said. “We kind of look at it is ladies love a man who can cook.”
Scholl told WJBC’s Scott Laughlin, the book features 120 recipes for grilling higher-end foods things like pig tongue, beef hearts, snails and even salad.
As for the beer, Scholl likes grilling with it whenever he can. His favorite food to grill is chicken wings.
The Chicago-based group has chapters worldwide. Scholl said he’d like to start a Central Illinois chapter soon.
