SPRINGFIELD – This might be the good side of the 2015 farming season in Illinois.
Sixty percent of soybeans are now in good to excellent condition, with half the crop out of the fields, says the USDA’s Mark Schleusener.
“There’s been at least a few producers seeing better than expected yields. I think that’s what is causing that increase of crops in the best conditions,” Schleusener said. “September had some good rains when there were still green leaves on the soybean plants.”
Corn is 50 percent harvested. Fitfy-six percent is reported in good to excellent conditions.
The state’s weather in the past week was, on average, drier than average (but with the southern part of the state wetter) and about normal in temperature.
Schleusener said the USDA’s next yield forecast is out Friday at 11 a.m.
