SPRINGFIELD – Time on the Internet might be well spent, if it can get you a cheaper health plan through the Illinois marketplace under the Affordable Care Act.
“In Illinois, the average savings for those who switched from 2014 to 2015 was about eleven dollars a month,” said Kathleen Falk, Midwest regional director of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. “That saved consumers about $2.7 million statewide, and, in fact, 21 percent of Illinoisans switched plans.”
Falk, reminding us the enrollment period is November, December, and January, said savings are there if you shop around, but – before tax credits are applied – the state average premium is up 6.1 percent, compared to 7.5 percent for the nation.
