BLOOMINGTON – Open enrollment is underway through the Affordable Care Act and GetCoveredIllinois.gov. Brian Gorman with Get Covered Illinois said if signed up last year, you are not forced to make any changes.
“If you signed up last year, you will be automatically enrolled if your plan is being offered,” said Gorman. “If the plan that you were on last year is not offered by your carrier, they will automatically enroll you in a similar plan.”
However, Gorman says there are many new health insurance companies offering plans in Illinois that may be a better fit. If you don’t sign up for health insurance in 2016, you could face a nearly $700 tax penalty.
