BLOOMINGTON – Accountability has been lacking with businesses in Illinois who receive state tax incentives.
A new report shows some businesses are dumping employees after getting the extra help. McLean County Economic Development Council Vice President Mike O’Grady tells WJBC’s Scott Laughlin on the local level, a company has to perform.
“Particularly if somebody say gets an incentive from property tax,” says O’Grady. “They have to perform first and if they don’t perform, they don’t get the tax break. And it’s not all at one shot which is the difference of – the EDGE is a big chunk or it’s dished out over a period of time.”
O’Grady says he would like to see that same tracking on the state level.
