NORMAL – Employers who are feeling overwhelmed by what to do now that medical marijuana is legally operating in Illinois have a place to turn. Heartland Community College is offering a class to help employers work medical marijuana into their company’s drug policy.
The class Dec. 8 is designed to help businesses craft a drug policy that incorporates medical marijuana, despite the conflicting state and federal laws.
Chris Wildrick with the Falcon Safety Group is leading the class.
“The bottom line is (employers) still have the overall authority to implement a drug-free workplace and enforce that policy among their workforce,” Wildrick said.
Wildrick told WJBC’s Dan Swaney that employers need to be aware that employees can still perform their job duties even if they’re under the influence of marijuana, depending on the specific type of marijuana the employee is using.
