BLOOMINGTON – The holiday season is starting to get into full swing and the American Red Cross is making sure blood donation is still on everyone’s mind.
Communications director Tracy Fox said there’s always a decline in the number of donors this time of year.
“That’s understandable. People are busy. You’ve got lots of activities and parties and different events going on,” said Fox. “We just want to remind people that the need never goes away.
“Even with the holidays, there are patients in hospitals. As more people travel, you can see an increase in traffic accidents”
Fox explained the need for blood drive host sites is also greater this time of year. The Red Cross works a lot with colleges and high schools, but they’re on break during the holidays.
“This time of year, we’re especially looking for organizations – church groups, community groups, local businesses – who are willing to step up and host a blood drive on site,” Fox said.
