SPRINGFIELD – This story might have you saying, “Tanks a lot.”
Gas prices have hit what could be a low point in Illinois. Discussing her agency’s Fuel Gauge Report, AAA Chicago’s Beth Mosher says, “They’re up about three cents just over (Thursday). I think that the days of gas prices on a falling trajectory might be over, but that doesn’t mean gas prices are going to spike back up to $3 anytime soon.”
Prices downstate range from $1.70 in Danville to $2.14 in East St Louis. Chicago averages $2.27. The Illinois average is $1.99, and the national average is $2.04.
The reason dates to your first economics textbook: supply and demand.
