BLOOMINGTON – A former McLean County deputy coroner is running for that department’s top job.
Gary Morefield told WJBC’s Scott Laughlin he is seeking election as McLean County coroner to bring stability to the office, noting that there’s no current chief deputy under current coroner Kathy Davis.
“There have actually been two chief deputies appointed, and shortly after being appointed they abruptly left, and a former chief deputy was assisting in the office and she also left abruptly,” said Morefield. “That brings great concern to me as to what’s going on in the office.”
Morefield served 12 years as a deputy coroner. He said the job is compassion-driven and he finds it rewarding when he can help people after hearing devastating news of a loved one’s death.
