BLOOMINGTON – Illinois is close to giving high school juniors the SAT college entrance exam instead of the ACT.
The Chicago Tribune reports that ACT has filed a formal protest to the move and nothing would be final until that protest is resolved.
According to state records, the nonprofit College Board that provides the SAT has agreed to a three-year, $14.3 million contract with the state. The contract is $1.4 million less over three years than the contract with the ACT.
Illinois schools have been administering the ACT to students for free the last 15 years and more than 90 school districts have signed up to administer the test again this spring.
