HARRISBURG – You remember the “50 state” quarters? They’re back featuring beautiful sights, including Shawnee National Forest.
The “Camel Rock” in the forest’s “Garden of the Gods” is on the tail side of the 25-cent piece, to be officially unveiled Feb. 4 in a ceremony in Southeastern Illinois College.
“The recreation areas extend to the Pine Hills that overlook the Mississippi River,” says forest spokeswoman Mary McCorvie, “and, on the other side of the forest, you have Garden of the Gods and the Camel Rock formation.”
The new series of quarters is called “America the Beautiful.”
