EUREKA – The new court at Eureka College is going to be named after former head men’s basketball coach Dave Darnall.
Darnall coached the Red Devils from 1974 to 1994, winning 383 games and a national title in his final season.
Darnall said he knew it was time to hang it up after surviving two heart attacks in 1992.
“I knew after having those two that my time was really short, but I thought these guys were going to be very good players and I didn’t know how far they were going to go,” Darnall said. “So my wife and I decided that we should just try to stay in there for two more years.”
The court dedication ceremony is at halftime of the Eureka College game against Blackburn College Saturday at 3 p.m.
